THE CONCEPT OF LAMINAR FLOW

The Dynaflow® Resolve Chip is a microfluidic device which generates a flow containing 16 different solution environments, in an open volume.

The 16 wells are easily filled with the desired solutions. A lid is attached and pressure is applied to well-defined pressure-driven flow within the channels. Then the open volume of the chip is filled with buffer solution so that the flows from the 16 channels enter a solution-filled bath.

When running this device in the low Reynolds number regime, the flow exiting channels couples and advances as one single laminar stream where mixing of the fluids from adjacent channels occurs only through diffusion.

Since, the patterned laminar flow is generated in an open volume, it is easily accessible to patch-clamp cell. Once the cell has been lifted, the Dynaflow Commander Software positions the cell in front of the desired channel outlet and executes a series of preprogrammed moves from channel to channel in a fats and efficient way.
